I just bought this machine, too! You did get a good price. I paid $525 online and I thought that was good, lol. I, too would like a needle up/down like the machine this one replaced. I am having a hard time adjusting to using the foot pedal to move the needle down.

Husqvarna Sewing Machine Manual For Interlude 445 Digital Sewing

I have really enjoyed the decorative stitches and tried the candlewick stitch a few days ago and it is gorgeous! Have you tried the hand quilt mock stitch? Wondered if any other owners can tell me how to get the machine to do a blanket stitch? Thanks for the review! You purchased your machine for a very good price. Did you purchase it on line?

I have the 445 also and I love that Viking has the needle and race to the front of the machine and the accessory case to the back which is opposite of my other machines. I was going to say to just press lightly on the foot control and your needle goes into the fabric or let up and the needle comes up but Julieanne already posted it. I really prefer this method for needle up/down than having to push the needle up/down button on my other machine because it keps the hands free. I don't mind the light weight foot control. I like that it is larger than most and there is a slot on the machine to stand up the pedal in the back when storing the machine. I hope you continue to enjoy your new machine. I like the selection of stitches too and I like to use multi colored thread when programming them.

Your Viking reminds me very much of my 8 year old Viking Sew Easy 350. It has many of the same features as your machine and has performed wonderfully! I have sewn the pants of this little machine and it is still the machine that I prefer for certain jobs. For the needle down, try taping lightly, or half way, on the foot control.

See if this lowers the needle into the fabric. It isn't quite like having a needle down button, but once you get the hang of it, it works just as well. Hope this machine grows on you!

Look at the presser foot and imagine they are at the center of a clock. Now look at 4:00.

There is a horizontal wheel (dial) on the free arm that needs turning. The feed teeth are lowered when you turn the dial on the front of the free arm to the left. Turn the dial to the right if you wish to raise the feed teeth. The feed teeth will raise as you begin to sew. Look at #12 on page 2 here: Answered on Feb 22, 2015.
