It is the greatest option for finding fundamental operation guidelines, shift patterns, coolant, lube, fuel, etc. Capacities, and general adjustment operations. Even if you already have an Operator's Manual in perfect condition, you'll find our value-added content, like paint codes, post-publishing updates and serial number information and corrections indispensable.
I purchased this grain drill recently and do not know what the model number is or how to set the seed rate. There is a chart on the back but I'm not sure how to read it. I hooked it up and used the rope to raise and lower the machine with the clutch lift and the center seed box seems to be working and turning freely. I'm not sure about the front box (alfalfa box) but the seed metering mechanism on the back is seized up. There were some spare parts in the back box so that was nice to find. Any guidance would be appreciated. I would like to use this to plant oats with next spring.
This machine has single disc openers. I'm not sure if they were made with double openers. Appears to be an IH #10 w/ grass seed & fertilizer attachments. We had one just like it for several years. Oops, missed the single disc openers. Yes, they made them with double disc openers as that's what our's had.

Is the chart still on the inside of the lid? I don't remember the settings but I remember my uncle always telling me to slide the lever past the cal number & bring it back to the number. I messed up once & just moved the lever up to the number & didn't get enough wheat on. When he seen how much I had sowed on the first fill he noticed what I had done & I got a preety good lecture about listening to him. Haven't forgot that since and it's been close to 45 yrs ago. Another edit, things come back slowly. IIRC, the wheel hubs are spring loaded.
Make sure you twist them so the drives engage otherwise it won't work when lowered. We always disengaged the hubs when pulling it down the road. We never raised the drill on the end, if you do it takews a few feet for the seed to reach the ground. A lot of times we sowed around the field & then came back in & drilled in the corners. Is the rear box for fertilizer?

The mechanisms on that box don't look like they've been used in 50 years. Jesse Front box is grass seed attachement, middle is seed, & rear is the fertilizer box. I don't ever remember using the fertilizer attachment on our old #10. You'll have a hard time getting the fertilizer box to work unless it was ever used or very well cared for.
I did use the old #10 one time to sow soybeans with. REarrly didn't get a good stand with it even though I pulled a double roller behind it. I ended up trading it for a new 620 press wheel drill in the late '70s. 0.

I would like to use this to plant oats with next spring. This machine has single disc openers. I'm not sure if they were made with double openers. We have the same exact drill without fertilizer, so i assume ours is a plain M?
International 10 Grain Drill Specs
I never did know what it was. We still use it today. My brother actually drilled about 40 acres of alfalfa with it this spring, pulled by an H. Boy did people ever talk about that! Ours has the rear cast iron packer wheels on it too. As far as accuracy, we wouldn't be using it to drill alfalfa if it wasn't. Another thing i like about it for alfalfa is that when the alfalfa comes up, it doesn't look drilled.
I've used a few other drills (Great Plains and John Deere) and other than physical size, there is no difference in stand or accuracy of planting. Nice purchase! Ours has the single disc openers. When 'drilling' alfalfa, it just kind of sprinkles it behind the openers. Thats why it doesn't really matter what openers it has. I just set the opener depth enough to scratch the ground good and away we go. The other drills i have used the depth really matters because it puts it in a furrow.

On this drill, it basically puts the alfalfa on top of the ground and relies on the chains and the packer wheels to cover and pack the seed. I would really recommend finding a set of packer wheels for it or pack the ground with another packer after seeding if seeding alfalfa with it. Any other questions, just ask.
