Ks1 Sats Teacher Guide 2016 Maths
YEAR 2 SATs What are Year 2 SATs (Standard Assessment Tests)? SATs tests along with teacher assessment are used at the end of Year 2 to show the progress your child has made in Key Stage 1.
These tests are marked by us using the provided marking scheme. When will the tests take place? Throughout May the children will be completing SATs tests in Reading, Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling, Maths (reasoning and arithmetic). Unlike Year 6 we do not have to complete the tests on set days. Please inform the class teacher if your child will be absent in May e.g. To go on a family holiday.
Chicago stationary engineer study guide. Where will the tests take place? Both the Year 2 classrooms will be used for the practise and real tests. The tables will be separated so that the children can work alone and in silence. How can you help your child prepare for the SATs tests?
Reading- Continue to hear your child read at least twice a week. Use the questions in the Reading Record and inside the book to discuss the book and check your child has understood what they’ve read. Please try to write a comment in your child’s reading record to let us know what they’ve done at home.

You can also ensure your child has read books, answered questions and played reading games on Bug Club Spelling- Please help your child to learn their weekly spellings. Correct their spellings when they are writing, especially the words they have already learnt in a test.
Also look at the Y2 common misconception word list that was sent home at parents evening. Punctuation- When completing their weekly homework encourage your child to write neatly and use punctuation. This includes; capital letters, finger spaces, full stops, commas in a list, question mark at the end of a question, exclamation mark at the end of an exclamation. Grammar- Children need to understand what a noun, adjective, verb and adverb are and identify these types of words in a sentence. Maths - Practise recalling number facts at speed to 20. Understanding the value of numbers (how many tens and ones in numbers to 100).
Talk about practical maths e.g weights and measures, telling the time, using money (coins) and recognising their value. Numbers are all around us – look at speed limit signs, how many tens in 50? Read door numbers, are they odd or even? How many miles to Sheffield? How long will it take us to get there? Children must be able to form numbers correctly as well as letters to please reinforce how numbers are formed and correct reversals.
Please reassure your child that there is nothing to worry about and the tests are a way for them to show you what they’ve learnt in Key Stage 1. They should feel proud of their achievements - we are! We are hoping to have a meeting for parents about the SATs tests in Spring 2 half term.
We will let you know the date and time of the meeting as soon as it has been arranged. If you have any questions about the above information please speak to the class teacher. This websites provides more information and gives examples of the SATs tests: als.
